Role of a Domiciliary Care Worker
Our Carers need to be friendly, caring and supportive towards the individuals we support. Many of the tasks carried out are of a personal and intimate nature. Care must be taken whilst performing these tasks to ensure that the individual’s privacy and dignity is protected at all times. Confidentiality must also be protected at all times as this can compromise the individual’s privacy, dignity and safety. Care staff need at be able to use an app to record completion of tasks on every visit. Full Training will be given.
To provide a range of personal, social, emotional and practical care tasks as required for the well-being of citizens, and their carer, living in their own homes within the community, whilst keeping a watchful brief on their changing needs.
To work towards an assessed and planned package of person centred care, or maintenance programme, enabling citizens and their families to exercise control over their own lives by maximising their independence. The provision of a culturally and ethnically sensitive service is integral to the provision of home care.
This post involves
- Have individual responsibility, under the supervision of the Domiciliary Care Manager, for the personal needs of citizens.
- Observing each citizen’s changing needs and reporting, on a regular basis, to the Domiciliary Care Manager.
- Providing personal care in a sensitive manner for all citizen groups and their families living in their own homes within the community (this may include assisting citizens to get up, and go to bed, total body washing, in line with procedures, assisting with toileting, dressing and feeding) and providing family residential carers support.
- Undertake essential domestic duties to assist citizen to care for their homes (e.g. cleaning, cooking, laundry), whilst encouraging citizen to retain maximum independence by creating a supportive homely atmosphere.
- Attending case conferences and other meetings as required to facilitate the provision of appropriate person centred support to citizens.
- Making appointments for citizens with e.g. a Doctor, Nurse or Chiropody Services.
- Assisting citizens, where instructed by the Domiciliary Care Manager, in the management of their income, paying rent and other household bills, and keeping a strict account for checking by the Domiciliary Care Manager.
- Attending Training Courses as required to develop skills and knowledge to improve the quality of service provision.
- Carry out any other duties and responsibilities within the scope and spirit of the job purpose and grade as may be required.
Your Responsibilities
To read the Service User’s Plan on each visit and carry out care tasks detailed within the plan. Any changes which need to be made to the plan, should be reported to the office.
Make your own risk assessment on each visit. Service User’s conditions may worsen; assess safety for yourself, service users and colleagues. Concerns need to be reported to the office.
To use equipment which is provided, such as hoists or moving and handling belts.
Occasionally required to take a service user to a pub or an event which involves alcohol.
You need to be

- Willing to travel
- Willing to do mandatory training and updates as required
- Driving licence is not essential for this position but will be advantageous
